Blaze Writer Calls C4P Writer “Whore”

Ablaze or Abusive?

I’ve seen some pretty low-brow things come from some of the folks at the Blaze, or associated with it. I’ve also seen some underhanded tactics used by their writers but what has bothered me most is their animosity toward most all things associated with Governor Palin.  As you will know, Governor Palin was asked by the folks at the Daily Beast to write a story about life with a special needs child at roughly the time Rick Santorum’s child Bella, also with special needs, took ill on the eve of the Florida primary.  Governor Palin wrote a touching article that expresses the love of a mother for her son against all the particular struggles he faces as a special needs child, and how much joy he adds to their family.

This didn’t sit well with one Blaze writer, Eddie Scarry, who launched an assault on Palin based upon the faulty premise that she was writing this article as some sort of opportunism on her part, completely ignoring the fact that the article had been requested by the publication in question.  From there, Conservatives4Palin writer Stacy Drake did what she does so often, and so well, which is to correct the record about Governor Palin, and place the idiocy of Mr. Scarry in its proper perspective.

In so doing, Drake ran afoul of the Beck media mafia, and when she voiced her incredulity with the write-up by Scarry, and she dared to tweet about it, Scarry called Drake a “whore” via twitter. The tweet has been deleted subsequently, but Breitbart has preserved it for posterity while also taking Scarry to task for his remarks. That tweet is captured here:

This sort of thing is part of the reason that The Blaze has come under fire before.  The Blaze has some excellent writers, but it also apparently employs some people who are juvenile jack-asses.  Mr. Scarry is one of these, judging by both his article, and his response to the obviously valid criticisms of it.  More, Stacy Drake is a fine writer, and a fine human being, and to respond to her in this way makes it clear that Scarry is merely trying to shift the focus from his own inane article to Ms. Drake and her person, rather than her fact-based criticism of it.

When I see this sort of re-direction and smearing going on, I know I am dealing with child-like minds, and when it happens on multiple occasions, one can identify a trend and realize that there’s something else at work here.  For me, the first was when The Blaze gave coverage to the ridiculous smear-heap by Joe McGinnis, and the second was when GBTV, a related Glenn Beck operation, also ran the ‘comedian’ Brian Sack mocking the Palins based on garbage allegations in that same book.

To me, and for my part, it has begun to look like a trend, and some of you will have noticed that I once had a link to The Blaze on my page, but it’s gone away, simply because I came to realize that Governor Palin is not being treated fairly on that site.  I also think I understand why:  Palin has kept this primary season alive, and that seems to run counter to the clear slant on The Blaze and in any Beck-owned media in favor of Mitt Romney, and staunchly hammering Newt Gingrich. Beck claimed to be for Bachmann, and then Santorum, but he seems also to be a stealthy advocate for Romney more frequently.

In any case, I encourage you to surf on by Conservatives4Palin and ready Stacy’s article.  She shines the light of truth on the ridiculous writing of Eddie Scarry at the Blaze.  Such garbage really doesn’t deserve a platform, never mind one so prominent as The Blaze, but Beck hires who he wants to write the sorts of stories he wants. Suffice  it to say that I stand with Stacy Drake, and as I have watched her defend Sarah Palin over the years against similarly scurrilous attacks, I’ve grown to appreciate her talent, her skills and devotion, and for Eddie Scarry to say this about her is to announce to the world that he’s not worth a damn.  Not only does he write poorly researched articles in pursuit of a political agenda, but he also reacts against criticism by personal attack.  It’s garbage, and nobody should mistake it for anything else.

Beck has been getting more and more bizarre in recent days. I stopped listening to his morning radio show on the way to work after I heard him fillibuster a woman caller, then hang up on her before she could respond (although he said he would let her have her say)..and then he proceded to scream hysterically in a frighteningly shrill little girl voice. I fear he has eaten one too many twinkies.

And this scarry dude has taken on more than he can handle. He may be used to calling womenwith whom he associates such a name, but using it against Stacy Drake (who is his superior in every way) will not end well for him.

Great article! There is ALWAYS something about Glenn Beck that annoys me. I used to watch him on Fox and got so tired of his childish antics. His info was good, but he seemed always to be hanging people on "until the next time". Keep 'em coming back, I guess. I got tired of it and him. A personal attack like this by Scarry is abhorrent to all decent people.

  3. Gail says:

That is sad , I must have missed the article that Sarah wrote for the Blaze.

I don't know what has happened to Glenn…he has certainly changed.
Maybe to much stress going on in his life. To many irons in the fire.

I think he will sort them all out soon. He needs to let go of the Blaze and close it down. Just my humble opinion.
Let's pray for Glenn and his family….Glenn is still doing a good job on GBTV in exposing the Islamist radical extremist and the devastation going on across our borders between the drug cartels in Mexico.

Of course I didn't like it when he was trashing Newt and still is as far as I know.

Gail, No, Sarah wrote an article for the Daily Beast. It's linked in the article. The Blaze writer attacked her, Stacy defended, and then was called a "whore" by the Blaze writer.

Whatever happened to unbiased journalism? They used to be proud of that quality and now it seems like they enjoy the notoriety of being completely in-the-tank on one side or another.

  5. Kathleen says:

Beck has been sounding sort of ready for funny farm at times to me. I decided to stay away. He was depressing me.

  6. Gail says:

If I may, Glenn might be suffering from the effects of the Pain Pills he "might "be taking for his back.

  7. dancer says:

did anyone contact beck about this happening at the blaze and get his answer about this or you just taking one incident to put him down

    • MarkAmerica says:

      Dancer,

This is not the first incident. As I documented with links in the article, there have been other 'incidents.' How many 'incidents' of calling a person a "whore" is required before we question this? 1? 10? 100? What's the line you draw? I read his tweet. It's clear-cut. What more do you want? I understand that there are those who defend Beck – I was one of them until all this started happening last fall – but this sort of behavior by some on his staff is not a novelty any longer.

  8. Gail says:

I just read the article that Sarah Palin wrote for "The daily Beast". It was good ….
.But my gosh the Madcow liberal comments seem to come right out of the mouth of demons.

  9. I grew weary of Beck before he even left FoxNews. I tuned in to his first show where he touted a new comedian that he felt would put John Stewart out of business. One of the first jokes out of his mouth was a slam against Sarah Palin (a supposed friend of Becks). Appalled, I never again. He's annoying…

I stopped going to the Blaze about a year ago following the posting of several articles written by those suffering from Palin Derangement Syndrome. Beck has used Palin on several occasions to draw bigger crowds to his events, and then turn around and stab her in the back whenever he went on BOR's show. So, this latest flap comes as no surprise.

  11. Gail says:

Let's remember who our enemies are….It is NOT Glenn Beck.

The enemy is George Soros and a plethora of his organizations against America and Americans.
Let's use our time bashing Soros instead.

  12. carm says:

Mark thanks for the article. I left a comment for beck and told him that when he found out about this article he should have had it pulled. I said he of all people who has a special needs child should not condone this. But beck said nothing.
As you well know there was no apology put out by beck or the people who are employed by him. They really showed just what kind of people they are. No class.

  13. I do not in any way mean to excuse the childish behavior or Mr. Scary.

Interesting that each of the responders here associates the Blog post of Mr. Scary (blog is only the author's opinion so it was not as though this were an article on the front page…) with Mr. Beck as though he uttered the words, or posted them on behalf of Mr. Scary. I admit I have at times been annoyed with the Blaze as they seem to flame one particular individual or another. I was disgusted by one of that publication's reporter's treatment of Mr. Cain; it always seemed while reading her articles that Mr. Cain was guilty by simply being a man. That said, I do not fault Mr. Beck, who had many positive and supportive things to say about Mr. Cain, for the comments of a reporter on the Blaze staff.

I do not in any way mean to excuse the childish behavior or Mr. Scary.

Mr. Scary has amended his blog post to acknowledge that Mrs. Palin was asked to write this piece, and that it was not her response to the illness of Mr. Santorum's child. This in No Way excuses his adolescent attack on Ms. Drake.

I do not in any way mean to excuse the childish behavior or Mr. Scary.

To be honest, Mr. Beck annoys me these days. He repeats a great deal and he is not fair with callers who do not carry his party line. But I do think he says enough to get himself in trouble without faulting him for the "mis-speaks" of others.

I do not in any way mean to excuse the childish behavior or Mr. Scary.

(I wanted to be sure that I am very clear in opinion of Mr. Scary's tweet, so that no one commenting on my comments could be justified in saying I was trying to excuse Mr. Scary's remark.)

I find it desperately frustrating that our conservative leaders (and we conservative average joes) refuse to get along and work together to strengthen our political position. Desperately frustrating that they take an almost greater delight in zinging and one-lining one another, rather than in focusing on what needs to be done to defeat Obama in 2012. A house divided…. Oh well.

    Oh yeah, and
I do not in any way mean to excuse the childish behavior or Mr. Scary.

    • MarkAmerica says:

Misty, may I understand from all of this that you do not intend to excuse Mr. Scarry? ;-)

I understand your point, but in the last six months or so, there has been a distinct anti-Palin bias that seems to shine through, whether Mr. Beck realizes it or not. You would think he might, since a number of Palin supporters canceled their GBTV subscriptions after the oft-lamented Brian Sack premiere. (Me included.)

I don't know what Mr. Beck is up to, but I do know that if he's going to permit that on his site, he's ultimately responsible.

      Anyway, that's my position.

      Thanks for yours!

      Mark

  14. Texmom says:

I'm not ready to write Beck off, as he still exposes a lot that no one else will cover. That being said, I have observed that he does not like people disagreeing with him or questioning how he handles something, and can turn nasty pretty quickly. Defensive.
He does need to be held responsible for content from his writers.

    • I guess in articles I would agree with you, but when it comes to blogs, which are by nature, opinion pieces, it seems that they writers should and do have the latitude to express their opinions. Now the editor of the Blaze certainly has the recourse to pull this writer's blog privilege, but again, that is up to the editor of the Blaze, and Mr. Beck, while the initiative is his, the editor chair of the Blaze is not.

      • Texmom says:

I agree that Glenn isn't the editor but if he is aware of this, he should act. Ttweeting obscenities about it reflects badly on all of them and has to be dealt with. He can express his opinion all he wants….elsewhere.

  15. JJ in SarahSota says:

Thanks for putting this out there Mark. Although I am a subscriber to GBTV, I was not aware of a consistent anti-Palin bias across Beck's properties until recently. I missed the Brian Sack piece, and only occasionally visit The Blaze, however this Scarry hit piece made me sit up and take note.

I sent Beck & Stu a disapproving tweet, and am now considering pulling my GBTV subscription. I've been listening to Beck for many years, and I was a fan of Palin's since before she was selected by McCain for VP. Recently though, it seems Beck has jumped the shark and is getting wacky.

IMO, in a match-up between the two, Sarah wins, Beck loses.
